What Is Reiki?

What is Reiki

Reiki is commonly understood as an alternative therapy and healing art. Founded in Japan over 100 years ago by Mikao Usui who developed this energy healing practice  and has been passed on from Master to student through teachings, a defined form of practice and initiation.

The Japanese word ‘reiki’ can be translated as ‘universal life energy’ and the Usui System is a way of working with reiki for healing of self and others.  Find out more about the origins HERE.

Benefits of Reiki

A Reiki session can be held in person or distant and clients have found both to be just as effective. The good thing about Reiki is that is is an intelligent energy and knows where to go in the body to heal and it cannot harm the client. There are  many health benefits to receiving a Reiki treatment and also developing your own self healing practice.

It helps to relieve stress, release emotional blocks, balance the body’s energy and chakras, it supports other healing modalities and can be used with traditional healing therapies. As it is said to aid other healing therapies, it is vital that one continues seeing professional medical providers when needed!

What to expect in your Reiki session.

When receiving Reiki in person the recipient will lay down or be seated its important to be relaxed comfortable and therefore receptive to healing. The practitioner will administer the treatment by hovering their hands over your body along the chakra system.

A distance reiki session will be held remote and you would be asked to set aside a time and place where you won't be disturbed for a few hours and just be open to receiving the energy. Some people like to meditate while others may just practice self-care (ie relaxing while reading a book).

Everyone has a different experience after a session but we recommend drinking lots of water and stay away from alcohol 24 hours before and after a session.
